Question #: 74
Topic #: 2
[All PMI-SP Questions]

You are the project manager for your company. You are working with the activities defined in the figure below.

What will happen to your project if Activity F takes five additional days to complete than what was expected?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: A

An activity is an individual element of work that is logically linked to other activities to

form the schedule. Its primary characteristics include an overall duration based upon the resources

applied to it (manpower, material, and equipment), as well as a start and

completion date that is tied to a work calendar. It also has a relationship with other activities

(predecessors and successors).

Ah, the joys of project management. It's like a game of Tetris, but with deadlines instead of blocks. I'll go with B and hope the client doesn't throw a fit.

Two critical paths? That's like having two left feet - it's just not going to work. D is definitely not the way to go here.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm feeling a bit float-y after looking at this question. All joking aside, I think C is the correct answer here.

That's a good point, so maybe C is the correct answer after all.

But if there is float available on Activity I, then the project can still complete on time.

I think it might actually be D, since Activity F is on the critical path.

Five extra days for Activity F? That's going to put a serious dent in the project's timeline. B is the way to go, no doubt about it.

Looks like Activity F is the culprit here. Shifting the critical path to ACFI seems like the obvious choice, but I wonder if the float on Activity I can really save the day.

So, it's better to plan for the worst-case scenario and adjust accordingly.

But won't the critical path shift to ACFI if Activity F is delayed?

I disagree, I believe our project can still complete on time as float is available on Activity I.
