SolarWinds Exam SCP-NPM Topic 13 Question 41 Discussion

Actual exam question for SolarWinds's SCP-NPM exam
Question #: 41
Topic #: 13
[All SCP-NPM Questions]

You start a new job where NPM is already in use. As soon as you are added to the alert list, you begin receiving ''high traffic utilization'' alerts from a handful of interfaces.

When you check the alert, the traffic spike has ended. Your new colleagues advise you to ignore these alerts because the spikes rarely last for more than a couple of minutes and are only a concern if they last longer.

How should NPM be modified so you receive fewer false alerts?

I bet the person who wrote this question has received way too many of these 'high traffic' alerts in their career. Option A is the only one that actually addresses the problem.

Haha, my colleagues must be seasoned veterans if they're telling you to ignore these alerts. But they're right, A is the best solution to avoid the false alarms.

C and D don't seem relevant here. Increasing the polling frequency won't stop the false alerts, it'll just give us more of them. A is the way to go.

Great, let's go ahead and configure the alert to trigger only when the traffic utilization remains high for a sustained period.

Definitely, it will help us focus on the real issues and not get distracted by temporary spikes.

I agree, that way we won't be bombarded with false alerts every time there's a short spike in traffic.

I think we should go with option A, it makes sense to trigger the alert only when the traffic utilization remains high for a sustained period.

I'm not sure about option A. Maybe we should consider option B as well, to make sure the alert resets only when the traffic utilization remains high for a sustained period.

I agree with Sharen. Option A seems like the best way to reduce false alerts and focus on the real issues.

Option A makes the most sense. We don't want to be alerted every time there's a brief spike in traffic. Setting a sustained period threshold will help us focus on the real issues.

That sounds like a plan. Let's make the necessary changes to improve our alert system.

I think we should go ahead and configure the alert to trigger only after a sustained period of high traffic utilization.

Yeah, it would definitely help us filter out the noise and focus on the actual problems.
