Option B seems a bit more complex than necessary. Why have two rules when one can do the job? I'd go with Option A for its simplicity.

I'm not sure I understand the difference between a Product Selection Rule and a Product Validation Rule. Wouldn't Option D also work, as long as the message is clear enough for the user?
