I agree, a user survey is the way to go. The sponsor's feedback is important, but the users are the ones actually working with the solution day-to-day.
I believe comparing the results of day-in-the-life testing and integration testing can also provide valuable insights into the solution's effectiveness.
Conducting a user survey seems like the most logical option. Hearing directly from the end-users will give the best insight into how well the solution is meeting their needs.
