Actual exam question for Oracle's 1Z0-821 exam
Question #: 103
Topic #: 9
[All 1Z0-821 Questions]

You created an IP address for interface not.3 with the following command, which executed successfully:

ipadm create-addr --T static --a 192.168.0.100/24 net3/v4

You then ran:

ipadm show--if

The result indicated that the interface was down.

You then ran:

ipadm delete-addr net3/v4

ipadm create-addr --T static --a 192.168.0.101/24 net3/v4

ipadm show-if

The last command indicated that the interface was up.

Why did it work with the second address specified, but not the first?

D seems like a plausible answer. The 192.168.0.100 address might be at a boundary and not allowed for static configuration in Oracle Solaris 11.

The correct answer is B. Another device must be using the 192.168.0.100 address, which is why the interface was down initially. Changing the address to 192.168.0.101 resolved the conflict.

I didn't realize that another device could cause the interface to be down.

I'm not sure, but I think it could also be D. The address might be at a boundary.
