I'm with Ollie on this one. Verifying the connectivity between the FSVMs is the way to go. If that checks out, then we can look at other possibilities. 'Sub task poll timed out' - sounds like a classic case of 'it's always DNS'.

The pre-upgrade check failure suggests a connectivity issue between the FSVMs. Checking the connectivity seems like the most logical first step to me.
