Which parameter within a share definition in the Samba configuration makes Samba only show files and directories on a file share which a user can access?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: A

hide unreadable: This smb.conf option ensures that only files and directories that the user has permissions to access are visible in the file share.

Functionality: When set to yes, files and directories that the user cannot read (due to permissions) will be hidden from their view.

Security and Usability: This helps in enhancing both security and usability by preventing users from seeing files they cannot access, reducing clutter and potential confusion.

Example Configuration:

[example_share] hide unreadable = yes

I'm just hoping the correct answer isn't 'display mode = 100' - that sounds like it would make the files disappear completely! Maybe we should ask Samba's customer service for a hint.

Personally, I'd go for option B, 'valid files = read, write'. That way, only the files the user can actually access will be shown. Simple and effective!

Ooh, this is a tricky one! I'm going to go with option C, 'browse mask = 000'. Seems like a nice way to restrict the view, am I right?

Hmm, I'm not too sure about this one. Maybe option D, 'browseable = readable' could work? Sounds like it might do the trick.

I think B) valid files = read, write is the best option to ensure only accessible files are shown.

But wouldn't hiding unreadable files be more secure?

I think option A is the correct answer. Hiding unreadable files and directories seems like the right way to restrict visibility on the share.

I agree with option C, setting the browse mask to restrict visibility.
