The reading of the instrument seems like the most likely to be influenced. I mean, what if the operator squints their eyes and misreads the measurement? That's a recipe for disaster.

I'm going with calibration of the instrument. You can't trust the readings if the tool itself isn't properly calibrated, no matter how careful the operator is.

Wait, the actual temperature of the liquid? What is this, a physics exam? I thought we were measuring wooden beams, not boiling water! *chuckles*

Hmm, recording the measurement seems like the most straightforward answer. As long as the operator carefully notes down the reading, the process should be the least prone to external factors.

Yes, as long as the operator records accurately, it should be reliable.

I think the actual temperature of the liquid is the least likely to influence the measurement of the wooden beams. The instrument should be able to provide accurate readings regardless of the ambient temperature.

But what about calibration of the instrument? If it's not accurate, that could also impact the measurement.

I agree with Franklyn. The temperature shouldn't affect the measurement of the wooden beams.
