Yeah, that makes sense. The passive monitoring is just observing the traffic, so as long as there's traffic flowing through the member, the FortiGate can monitor its health.

You know, I'm not entirely sure about that either. It would be nice if the FortiGate could offload the passive monitoring to hardware, but I don't know if that's actually a feature. We'd have to double-check the documentation on that one.
