Fortinet Exam FCSS_EFW_AD-7.4 Topic 5 Question 2 Discussion

Actual exam question for Fortinet's FCSS_EFW_AD-7.4 exam
Question #: 2
Topic #: 5
[All FCSS_EFW_AD-7.4 Questions]

Refer to the exhibit, which shows the VDOM section of a FortiGate device.

An administrator discovers that webfilter stopped working in Core1 and Core2 after a maintenance window.

Which two reasons could explain why webfilter stopped working? (Choose two.)

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: B, D

Since Core1 and Core2 are not designated as management VDOMs, they rely on the root VDOM for connectivity to external resources such as FortiGuard updates. If the root VDOM lacks a VDOM link to these VDOMs or cannot reach FortiGuard services, security features like web filtering will stop working.

I hope the webfilter issues aren't due to someone accidentally unplugging the 'magic internet cable' again. That would be the real problem here.

User 2: It could also be because the root VDOM does not have access to FortiManager.

I bet the exam writer was laughing while they came up with this one. 'Let's see if they can figure out the VDOM shenanigans!'

Hmm, I was thinking A and C, but now I'm reconsidering. The VDOM link and FDN access make more sense. This exam is really keeping us on our toes!

This is a tricky one. I'm going to go with B and D as well. The VDOM links and FDN access are crucial for the webfilter to work properly.

I agree, without VDOM links and FDN access, the webfilter won't function properly.

I believe option C could also be a reason, as enabling Management VDOMs is important for updates.

C is definitely one of the reasons. The Core1 and Core2 VDOMs need to be enabled as Management VDOMs to receive the FortiGuard updates. Just enabling the root VDOM is not enough.

C) The Core1 and Core2 VDOMs must also be enabled as Management VDOMs to receive FortiGuard updates

I agree with Asuncion, option B makes sense because there might be a connectivity issue.

I think the answer is B and D. The root VDOM needs to have a VDOM link to the other VDOMs, and it also needs access to a valid public FDN to receive FortiGuard updates.
