Time-based and boolean-based, huh? Jane's got the right idea, but it's like trying to juggle chainsaws while blindfolded. Union-based and error-based is the way to go, much less risk of losing a finger.

Out of band and boolean-based? Jane must be feeling a bit adventurous today. I'd stick to the good old time-based and union-based approach, no need to get too fancy.
