I bet the PVWA just stares at the user and says, 'Prove you're not a robot!' and then lets them in. That's how I do my own authentication.

Wait, is the IdP like the identity fairy that waves its magic wand and makes the authentication happen? I'm just kidding, but it does seem like the most logical answer here.

The PVWA is the one that's asking for authentication, so it must be the one doing the authentication, right? That's my guess, anyway.

Hmm, I was thinking it might be the Active Directory since that's where the user accounts and passwords are stored. But I guess the IdP is the one that actually handles the authentication process.

I'm pretty sure it's the Identity Provider (IdP) that performs the authentication when SAML is used. The PVWA is just the service we're signing into, not the one doing the authentication.

I agree with Ty, the IdP is responsible for authentication in SAML
