[All CWAP-404 Questions]

Where would you look in a packet trace file to identify the configured Minimum Basic Rate (MBR) of a BSS?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: A

RTS is not a valid acknowledgement frame. RTS stands for Request To Send, and it is a control frame that is used to initiate an RTS/CTS exchange before sending a data frame. The purpose of an RTS/CTS exchange is to reserve the medium for a data transmission and avoid collisions with hidden nodes. An acknowledgement frame is a control frame that is used to confirm the successful reception of a data frame or a block of data frames. The valid acknowledgement frames are CTS (Clear To Send), Ack (Acknowledgement), and Block Ack (Block Acknowledgement) . Wait, there's an 'MBR' now? I thought it was just the 'Basic Rate Set' back in the day. These WiFi standards keep getting more complicated, don't they?

Hold up, I've seen the MBR in an Action frame before. Must be B, easy peasy!

Nah, I'm pretty sure it's in the Association Response frame. I mean, that's where the AP tells the client all the important stuff, including the MBR. C for the win!

I think it's in the Supported Rates & Extended Supported Rates elements in a Beacon frame.

Hmm, I think the MBR would be in the Beacon frame, since that's where all the basic configuration details are, right? Let's go with D.

I'm not sure, but I think it might also be C) In the MBR Information Element in an Association Response frame.

I agree with Blondell, because the MBR is usually included in the Supported Rates element.
