CIMA Exam CIMAPRA19-E02-1 Topic 3 Question 66 Discussion

Actual exam question for CIMA's CIMAPRA19-E02-1 exam
Question #: 66
Topic #: 3
[All CIMAPRA19-E02-1 Questions]

A manager was in conflict with employees about annual leave arrangements. He wanted to have two weeks in the summer when the factory was closed and all employees had to take two of their four week annual

allowance.

Employees were resistant to this change as they wanted flexibility in when they took their holidays.

This conflict went on for sometime as the manager avoided resolving the issue. They have recently however, collaborated and agreed that only one week would be required to be taken as holiday in the summer when the

factory closed and the employees would get two days extra holiday throughout the rest of the year * a win-win situation!

Using Thomas-Kilmann's conflict mode instrument, what changed in the way this conflict was handled?

Wait, the factory's closed for two weeks in the summer? Sounds like a great time to hit the beach! Seriously though, this seems like a nice compromise that keeps everyone happy. Maybe the manager just needed a little vacation themselves to relax and see things from the employees' perspective.

Ah, the age-old battle between the boss and the workers. But this time, it seems like they've found a way to make it work. I'd say that's a good example of how increasing co-operativeness can pay off, even if the assertiveness isn't always sky-high.

Well, well, well, look at that! The manager and employees went from a full-blown showdown to a sweet little dance. I guess they learned that sometimes you gotta give a little to get a little. Assertiveness and co-operativeness, hand in hand - who would've thought?

Hmm, this seems like a classic case of 'pick your battles.' The manager could have dug their heels in, but they chose to compromise instead. I'd say that's a win for both sides - and a win for the Thomas-Kilmann model as well.

Ah, this is a tough one. The manager and employees have definitely gone through some ups and downs, but it sounds like they've found a mutually agreeable solution. I think the key change here is that they increased their co-operativeness, even if their assertiveness may have remained low at times.

I think the manager was too assertive at first.
