BCS Exam MBP18 Topic 7 Question 55 Discussion

Actual exam question for BCS's MBP18 exam
Question #: 55
Topic #: 7
[All MBP18 Questions]

In order to identify potential improvements, a business analyst has been asked to document the current customer sales experience in a large, electrical superstore. Whilst shadowing a customer service advisor, a sale was lost because the advisor couldn't authorise a price discount for a customer, who had seen the product advertised at a lower price by a competitor. The customer advisor tried to discount the product to match the competitor's price but was unable to do so.

The customer service advisor explained that this discounting required management approval and. unfortunately, both managers authorised to do this were on their lunch break

What element of the POPII model had caused the sale to fail?

I think it was a combination of People and Process. The advisor needed management approval, but the process of getting that approval was too slow.

I believe it was a Process issue. The fact that both managers authorized to give discounts were on lunch break caused the delay.

Maybe the managers were ordering extra-large sandwiches to match the competitor's prices? In all seriousness, this seems like a Process issue that needs to be addressed.

I agree with you, Valene. The customer advisor couldn't authorize the discount without management approval.

I'm going with Technology. The company should have an automated system that can quickly match competitor prices without the need for manual approval. It's 2023, we have the technology!

I think the element that caused the sale to fail was People.

Haha, looks like the managers were on a long lunch break! But seriously, the Information system seems to be the culprit here. The company should have better data and systems in place to quickly authorize these types of price adjustments.

This is clearly a People problem. The managers should be more accessible or there should be a backup process in place to handle these situations when they are not available.

I think the issue here is with the Process. The company should have a clear and streamlined process for authorizing price discounts to match competitors' prices, without relying on the availability of specific managers.
