Haha, imagine if the answer was grep. That would just be a mess, trying to search and merge at the same time. Paste is the clear winner here.

Wait, is this a trick question? Wouldn't diff be used to compare the differences between input streams, not merge them? I'm gonna go with paste.

I was thinking cut, but that's more for extracting specific fields from each line. Paste is definitely the way to go for this question.
